Moldovan parliament's inquiry commission for bank fraud demands opening criminal file against some persons

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliamentary inquiry commission for the elucidation of all circumstances of the robbing of Moldova’s banking system and investigation of the bank fraud has demanded the opening of a criminal file on the actions/inactions of more persons holding public offices, including against the former prime minister, Iurie Leanca. The head of the aforementioned commission, Alexandru Slusari, made statements to this effect today.   

„After the today’s hearings, the inquiry commission ruled, just till the compilation of the final report, to submit the first petition on the opening of a criminal file to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG). We ask for the starting of a criminal prosecution in accordance with the Article 328, paragraph (3) and Article 329, paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code on the actions/inactions of more people holding public offices, including against the former prime minister Iurie Leanca for the enforcement by the latter of the process of dispossessing the state from the controlling stake at Banca de Economii (Savings Bank), taking into account the serious repercussions which followed on the banking system of Moldova,” Slusari wrote on his page on a social network.     

The inquiry commission was set up in early last June. Among the persons heard so far, there are the former finance minister, Veaceslav Negruta, the former head of the parliament’s commission for economy, budget and finances, Veaceslav Ionita, the head of the former parliamentary commission which investigated the one-billion-dollar theft, Oleg Reidman, the former deputy head of Banca de Economii, Viorel Birca and the former governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Dorin Dragutanu.
