Chisinau, 24 September /MOLDPRES/- Presidential adviser on education, culture and research Corneliu Popovici said in an interview with MOLDPRES that the most serious problem faced by Moldova is depopulation. "The data presented by the National Bureau of Statistics show that the Republic of Moldova is facing a serious demographic crisis - we have crossed the red line in terms of depopulation, this process can no longer be stopped, the politicians should be concerned about its slowdown", he said.
There is a tendency for the Moldovan state to lose one million citizens over the next 20 years. "The trends are extremely worrying, if 30 thousand years ago in the Republic of Moldova were born 90 thousand children, in 2018 only 30 thousand were born, three times less. Demographic research shows that in 2050 Moldovan people could reach just one million, " he said.
Popovici noted that the main causes of the demographic crisis faced by Moldova are of social-economic nature, those of health and those related to the structure of the education system. "The Moldovan education system prepares many specialists who do not find work in the real economy, a reform of the higher education institutions is absolutely necessary," he said.
