USA to provide 380,000 dollars for restoration of Assumption of the Virgin church in Moldova's town

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - The United States will provide about 380,000 dollars for the restoration of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary church from the south-eastern Causeni town. The money will be used for works to restore the painting inside the church, the roof and arrangement of the room for airing at the building’s foundations.  

Education, Culture and Research Minister Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan visited the church, on the occasion of the launch of the new financing installment.

Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei reiterated the importance to rehabilitate the building, which, besides the fact that it represents a monument with unique architecture and painting, it is also a monument of national value.

For his part, Dereck J. Hogan said that the promotion of the cultural heritage meant not only the spirituality of a country, but also its economic development and the turning to good account and development of this heritage  contributes to the enhancement of Moldova’s attractiveness as tourist destination.

The project on restoration was launched in 2016 with the financial support of the Embassy of the United States in Moldova, with the American investment amounting to 779,600 dollars in all.
