Transnistrian region's delegation continues blocking work of Joint Control Commission

Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - The head of Russia’s delegation Ilya Uvarov, at a 3 October meeting of the Joint Control Commission, came up with additional arguments about the importance of verifying and analyzing the situation in the Security Zone following the actions undertaken by the Transnistrian delegation on 1 May 2019, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

At that time, Tiraspol introduced in the Security Zone its “border guard” structures, giving them powers of control over the people and transport means coming and leaving the region. These abusive actions represent an attempt to establish a “border” in the Security Zone and a serious infringement of the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement from 21 July 1992 on the principles of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict from Moldova’s Transnistrian region, as well as of the decisions taken at the Joint Control Commission.

Moldova’s delegation, as well as representatives delegated to the Commission by the OSCE Mission and Ukraine back Russia’s initiative. Nevertheless, the Transnistrian region’s delegation further refuses to accept it and creates blockages in the Commission’s work.

Given the lack of consensus, JCC carried out its works without having the concerned subject on the agenda this time too.

At an initiative by the Ukrainian side’s representatives, in conditions when the Transnistrian delegation has not given an answer to requests by representatives of Moldova and OSCE Mission so far, the sides resumed discussions on the provocations organized by the alleged Transnistrian security structures nearby the Pohrebea settlement, eastern Dubasari district, in last August.

The Commission members took note of the information unveiled by the senior military heads of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, who established that the equipment of the peacekeeping posts placed in the Security Zone met the regulation requirements and ensured the appropriate fulfillment of the tasks filed to the strength.

The participants in the meeting confirmed to office five military observers on behalf of Ukraine instead of another five who ended their mandate in the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
