Moldovan parliament speaker meets U.S. ambassador, new director of USAID Mission

Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grecianii today had a meeting with extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan and the director of the Mission of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Moldova, Scott Hocklander, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.       

Zinaida Greceanii congratulated Scott Hocklander on his recent appointment as director of the USAID Mission in Moldova and showed confidence that the productive interaction established between Moldova and this international institution would continue.

Scott Hocklander said that one of his concerns in the respective office would be to identify new opportunities of strengthening the commercial and economic relations with Moldova and to attract quality investments to the country.   

At the same time, Zinaida Greceanii and Dereck J. Hogan exchanged opinions on the evolution of the situation in Moldova after the establishment of the parliamentary majority. The officials tackled aspects on the consistent and firm actions of the parliamentary majority in the reform of the Prosecutor General’s Office and justice system, fighting corruption, as fundamental premises for the country’s development.

The U.S. ambassador highlighted the authorities’ progress in this respect and encouraged for continuing these important actions for Moldova’s people.

In another context, the sides emphasized the active external agenda of Moldova’s parliament, which contributes to the improvement of the country’s relations with the foreign partners, to the strengthening of the position on the international stage. 

Another subject of the discussions was the campaign for the general local polls. Zinaida Grecianii stressed the importance to carry out a free and fair ballot, able to lead to changes for the better for the citizens.   

Generalizing, the parliament speaker underlined the significance of the solid assistance provided by the USA to Moldova in diverse fields, meant to help consolidate the democratic institutions, social and economic development and improvement of the citizens’ living standards.
