Working groups for human rights from two banks of Dniester hold meeting in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the working groups for human rights took place at the Chisinau-based headquarters of the OSCE Mission in Moldova. Attending the event were sectoral experts from both banks of Dniester, as well as representatives of the mediators and observers in the 5+2 format of talks, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
Chisinau’s delegation was led by ombudsman Mihail Cotorobai and made up of representatives of relevant national authorities and Women’s Law Centre of Moldova.
According to the earlier established agenda, the subject considered was focused on aspects dealing with the prevention and combating of the domestic violence, including the one against women, through the light of the Council of Europe’s Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
The participants in the meeting said that the domestic violence was a complex problem, which implies both the protection of the personal integrity of victims and the protection of their common social interests and in this respect, the problem is topical on both banks of Dniester.
In the context, the participants in the meeting unveiled a mechanism of solving domestic violence acts, stipulated by Moldova’s legislation, which provides efficient procedures of intervention in such situations, in order to prevent and combat the aforementioned phenomenon.
The next meeting of the working groups will be held in Tiraspol.
