Foreign ministry, electoral body discussed with ambassadors accredited to Chisinau

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Țulea chaired today a video conference meeting with heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states residing in Moldova, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.
The Moldovan official referred to the preparatory activities for the organization and conduct of the presidential elections on November 1. On behalf of the Central Electoral Commission, video conference was attended by chairman Dorin Cimil and Secretary Maxim Lebedinschi.
Țulea reported on the ministry's effort to open polling stations inside embassies, consulates, as well as outside diplomatic missions. Chisinau authorities request to the foreign states’ governments to provide support for proper organization of the presidential election, so that Moldovan citizens can exercise their right to vote safely.
The sides also approached the risks associated with the organization of the election depending on the pandemic evolution, as highlighted the continuous monitoring by both institutions of the epidemiological situation in the accreditation states and their impact on the organization of elections.
During the videoconference, it was expressed willingness to study the experience of other states in organizing elections under pandemic crisis. They also addressed continuation of the information campaign for Moldovan citizens abroad about the procedure of pre-registration in online format. The decision on the geographical distribution of polling stations abroad will be taken by the Central Electoral Commission before 26 September.
