Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, along with his adviser in the health care sector, Ala Nemerenco, and the adviser on economic issues, Veaceslav Negruta, today paid a working visit to the northern Soroca district. The head of state met representatives of the district’s leadership and about 30 mayors, physicians, business people, as well as representatives of the civil society, the presidential press service has reported.

The main subjects of the discussions were focused on the current situation in the district, especially in the sectors worst hit by the pandemic: health system, agriculture, small business and HoReCa. ‘’I stressed the need to carry out a deeper analysis nationally of the situation of the small- and medium-sized enterprises and how people from vulnerable groups are backed. On such complicated periods, the state’s role is to help the people,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

The head of state discussed with the Soroca authorities also the need to work out as quickly as possible a road segment of 5 km, which connects the national road to the Cosauti settlement from this district. ‘’I tackled the subject in the context of an agreement during my visit to Kiev on the construction of a bridge across the Dniester river from Cosauti and its adjacent infrastructure, which would bring a big benefit to our residents,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Another subject of the discussions was the fair distribution of funds for settlements, not according to the mayors’ political colour. The Moldovan president committed to continue the discussions at the European and international levels for direct assistance for projects locally, which would allow developing and modernizing the settlements. ‘’Even the lack of a government with full mandate makes the management of the state’s affairs complicated at present, the local public authorities are of a major importance for improving the situation in Moldova. The mayors, councilors can and must be as closer as possible to people in such difficult times; let us try to help each citizen in need,’’ the head of state said.

At a meeting with the medical staff from the Soroca district, Maia Sandu thanked the sector’s employees for their huge work carried out in quite complicated conditions. ‘’I discussed the sanitary situation, the hospitals’ needs and the importance of observing the rules of protection in continuation. I know how tired the people are, I know how much we want to return to normal; yet, namely to see again the beloved people, we must prove responsibility further as well – we should wear masks and avoid agglomerated places,’’ the president noted.

The discussions of the head of state and business people from the district regarded the most urgent subjects for the sector: the need to receive support on behalf of the state for getting out of the crisis, the predictability of laws and ceasing the harassment of entrepreneurs, fighting corruption and creating a friendly environment for developing businesses. ‘’An important subject deals with the distribution of diesel oil provided by the government of Romania to farmers and, in this context, I said that I asked the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry to create a correct and clear-cut mechanism of its allocation,’’ Maia Sandu reiterated.

The head of state met also representatives of non-governmental organizations from Soroca. The president of Moldova assured them that she would continue discussing at the level of the European institutions on the providing of assistance for the creation of the Silver Fund – a programme meant to provide services of care, social canteens for the pensioners who remained alone. ‘’I was happy to meet people dedicated to communities’ problems, people who look for creative and efficient solutions as response to the environment challenges, people who give their time and energy to provide servicers to elderly people and mitigate their loneliness,’’ Maia Sandu added.
