Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau city hall cannot ensure the compliance with the provisions of the National Commission of Public Health on limiting the number of passengers in the municipal public transport.
Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban said today that the local public administration cannot ensure for objective reasons the fulfillment of the provision of the Extraordinary National Commission of Public Health of 15 February 2021 on limiting the number of people in road transport in local and municipal traffic at 50% of boarding capacity.
According to the official, the municipality cannot supply the required number of vehicles to meet this provision. "In 2020, we had the maximum number of existing vehicles on the municipal public transport routes - 321 trolleybuses and over 100 buses. However, it was not possible to avoid crowd in public transport ", said Ceban.
At the same time, he said that the observance in 2020 of the scenarios to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the municipal public transport did not give the expected result and harmed the municipal budget.
He noted that the municipal authorities will not take any decision contrary to the public health authority, and the municipality wants revisions of Decision No 45 of 15 February 2021 of the Extraordinary National Commission for Public Health, based on a pragmatic and professional approach that does not bring economic damage to the activity of municipal services.
Today, the Employers' Association of Road Transport Operators said that next week the regular passenger transport across Moldova will be suspended for one day, including private transport (over 50%) in Chisinau.
