Moldovan president convenes meeting with specialists in energy sector

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu convened a meeting this morning with several specialists in the energy sector to discuss issues and identify the best strategic solutions, the presidential press service has reported.

"The energy sector has been sabotaged for years by various group interests, political and economic factors, being a huge source of illicit income for corrupt officials. This must stop, especially since the energy field affects all citizens and is related to state security. The lack of a government with full powers and a functional parliament complicates things even more, ” Maia Sandu said.

The important topics discussed during the meeting are related to the purchase of electricity and possibilities of diversification of sources, interconnection of the energy system with Romania, modernization of the central heating system, gas supply system, including the analysis of options for building storage depots, strengthening independence National Agency for Energy Regulation and Competition Council, change the legal framework on energy efficiency, renewable energy.

"Of course, a priority remains the investigation of corruption schemes in the energy sector, which leads to the enrichment of some people at the expense of rising consumer prices," said Maia Sandu.
