Moldovan president, director of WHO Regional Office for Europe discuss pandemic situation

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and the presidential adviser in the healthcare sector, Ala Nemerenco, today evening discussed with Director of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Hans Kluge in the videoconference format. They exchanged information on the evolution of the pandemic situation in Moldova and the access to vaccine, the presidential press service has reported.
„I thanked WHO for involvement in the actions of response to the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the need of free of charge supplying Moldova with vaccine as soon as possible through the COVAX platform – for 20 per cent of the country’s residents, just as it has been planned,’’ Maia Sandu said.
In the context, the head of state asked for the WHO’s assistance in the process of negotiation of advantageous prices with vaccine producing companies through the COVAX platform.
For his part, the WHO representative confirmed that the first consignment of vaccine through the COVAX platform was to reach Moldova in the end of February.
