Epidemiological situation in Chisinau alarming

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/- Number of beds available to treat patients with COVID-19 has decreased in the municipal hospitals in Chisinau.

The head of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Health, Tatiana Bucearschi, said today at the municipal services meeting that the number of coronavirus patients in need of hospital treatment has increased and municipal health institutions have reached the maximum treatment capacity of COVID-19 patients. "1,320 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in municipal health institutions, and the maximum capacity is 1,400 treatment beds," said Bucearschi.

The official said that late last week, the municipal health institutions created a surplus of 237 seats, reaching full capacity. "In all municipal health institutions, additional treatment places have been created, treatment places have been improvised even in the employees' offices, and we have reached the maximum capacity of 1,400 hospital beds + 200 places in the MOLDEXPO Center," Bucearschi said.

At the same time, the official noted that the number of serious and very serious cases of coronavirus has increased. "50 patients who are in a very serious condition are hospitalized, and 368 are in a serious condition, another 827 people are in an average condition," the official said.

Bucearschi was also concerned about the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases in children aged 13-17. "2.7 percent of the total number of coronavirus cases are children aged 13-17," Bucearschi said.

So far, 176,752 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the country. 3,780 people died from the infection, including 87 health workers.
