Moldova participates in high-level segment of 46th session of United Nations Human Rights Council

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today gave a speech at the high-level segment of the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in videoconference format on 22-24 February 2021, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
In his speech, the Moldovan delegation’s head referred to the pandemic’s impact on the human rights, especially as regards the vulnerable groups, worst hit by the pandemic. At the same time, Ciocoi called on the international community to condemn the infringements of the human rights in Moldova’s Transnistrian region.
Aureliu Ciocoi pointed out that any measures attenuating the effects of the pandemic should have at their basis the observance of human rights. He stressed the importance of the right to health and in this respect, it is necessary to consolidate the international cooperation, in order to ensure the access to vaccine for everybody.
In the speech, the acting PM paid special attention to the human rights situation in Moldova’s Transnistrian region. Aureliu Ciocoi informed the international community about the abuses of the alleged Transnistrian structures, which worsened even more under the pretext of the pandemic.
At the same time, the official referred to the government’s actions on the human rights dimension, as part of the efforts to carry out the democratic reforms in Moldova. The video speech by the Moldovan officials can be accessed on the digital platform of the UN Secretariat.
