Foundation from Moldova launches programme meant for supporting people sick with cancer

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - A foundation from Moldova today launched a programme titled, Group therapy for cancer patients, meant for backing people sick with cancer.    

According to the foundation members, the social impact of the oncological diseases is huge. Besides treatments, the emotional state and the life quality are quite important for these patients. Numerous studies made worldwide show that the group therapy is the most efficient way of overcoming the feelings of uncertainty, anxiety, vulnerability or difficulties of communication with the family and other people.   

The support groups allow patients to speak about their experience with other persons who face the same problems and learn from each other. ‘’The group therapy can help manage the pain and the secondary effects of the cancer treatment. Through this project, we are set to provide support and develop the concept of going ‘’hand in hand’’. We should develop the emotional resilience of the patients and de-taboo the cancer in our society, so that the patients fearlessly or shamelessly appeal to help when they need it,’’ a psychotherapist, Tatiana Mendes, said.  

Thus, according to the organizers, the project’s beneficiaries will discuss and learn about: the perception and acceptance of the diagnosis, relations with the family members, overcoming the difficulties and problems faced at work, diminution of the treatments’ adverse effects.  

Starting from 22 March, a group of patients with breast cancer, made up of 5-10 persons, will start working. These people will hold meetings weekly in the same stable composition during more years. The meetings will take place at a private hospital from Chisinau and with no participation fee.
