Head of penitentiary No 15 from Cricova town of Moldova detained

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - The head of the Penitentiary No 15 from the Cricova town, Chisinau municipality, has been detained and a large number of banned objects were raised following searches organized by the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS).

According to PCCOCS, the inspections were authorized by magistrates, in connection with a criminal file of one of the deputies of the National Administration of Penitentiaries, instrumented by prosecutors. Last week, the concerned man was detained and placed under preventive arrest for abuse of power in the interest of a criminal organization and the investigations as to the accused man are underway.   

After the 24 February controls, law-enforcers discovered and raised more than 100 handmade knives, 30 mobile phones, about 40 SIM cards, as well as about 100 bearers of electronic information, of various dimensions, which are to be subjected to expertise, in order to establish and analyze the content.

In the context, hundreds of counters for games of chances and tens of sets of poker cards were raised. Also within the searches, law-enforcers raised various acts and note-books, which contained figures of bank accounts, as well as numbers and passwords of bank cards. The acts contained also lists with sums by debtors – large sums in Moldovan lei and other currencies.       

Additionally, law-enforcers found hundreds of litres of handmade alcohol. The substance was raised and delivered to the penitentiary’s administration, which instructed immediate liquidation of the stocks. At the same time, tens of syringes were raised containing unknown liquid substances, as well as tens of small packages with solid substance (powder), which are to be analyzed to establish whether it represent drugs. Also, law-enforcers discovered several devices of inhaling drugs.        

As a result of controls carried out by law-enforcers, a decision was taken on the transfer of 13 convicts from the Penitentiary No 15 Cricova, with placement in other penitentiaries and the penitentiary’s head was detained for 72 hours. Law-enforcers suspect his of participation and support, in various ways, of the criminal organization’s work.
