Moldovan producers to comply with EU's norms for orchards' protection

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - The fruit producers will have to use more and more biological products for orchards’ protection. This happens after the problem of residua of pesticides in fruits becomes more and more topical, especially in the context of the toughening of the requirements on behalf of the networks of shops from the European Union, as well as of the erasing of a string of phyto-sanitary preparations from EU’s and national registers.   

The head of the Moldova Fruct Association, Vitalie Gorincioi, said that the producers must orient themselves to the buyer’s requirements as quickly as possible. ‘’The networks of shops do not accept the fruits with residua which exceed the maximally admissible norms. We have no much time available to orient ourselves and see how we protect our orchards from diseases and pests and, at the same time, to provide a qualitative and inoffensive product to consumers,’’ Vitalie Gorincioi said.     

To discuss challenges and solutions to this effect, over 50 participants representatives of state institutions, companies producing pesticides and agricultural producers participated in on online workshop, organized by the Moldova Fruct Association. The event was organized within the project, Climate’s Reform in Moldova, financed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), member of the World Bank Group.     

„Our goal is to help producers cope with the EU market’s requirements, in order to reach and maintain on this market. It is quite important that these requirements are recognized by the production sector and the access to the needed range of phyto-sanitary goods should be ensured by the importers of these products,’’ a specialist in agro-business at IFC, Felicia Pricop, said.   

„The future system of protecting the horticultural plantations against diseases and pests is obviously orienting towards the gradual reduction of the use of synthetically created pesticides and replacing them by biological ones. The latter will not be cheap and this will surely lead to higher production costs. Our common goal is that the Moldovan fruits make happy with their special taste the EU consumers and not only, be inoffensive and qualitative and provide satisfactory profits to fruit growers,’’ the executive director of the Moldova Fruct Association, Alexandru Fala, said.
