Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - The extension and diversification of the Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations at diverse levels, Moldova’s European agenda, as well as the pandemic situation were among the subjects discussed by President Maia Sandu and Lithuania’s Foreign Affairs Minister  Gabrielius Landsbergis, on a working visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state expressed gratitude for the constant support provided by Lithuania in the process of Moldova’s modernization and Euro-integration. ‘’I thanked for the permanent support provided to our country by Lithuania in the last 30 years – economic and political backing, including in the context of cooperation with the European Union. I reminded about the fact that Moldova was the first country to recognize Lithuania’s independence in May 1990 and I voiced hope for the maintaining of this dynamic relation in the long run,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The officials also exchanged opinions on the political situation in Moldova and the country’s reforms’ agenda. ‘’We discussed the current challenges, with which we should cope – political and economic crisis, fight against the pandemic, combating corruption and money laundering. I expressed determination to further promote the reforms needed for Moldova’s development and modernization,’’ the head of state stressed.

For his part, Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis gave assurances that Lithuania would remain a loyal ally of Moldova both in carrying out the domestic changes and at the regional and European levels.
