Over 21,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses provided by Romania reached Chisinau

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/- The first doses of COVID vaccine offered by Romania reached Chisinau today. The vaccine aircraft landed around 14.00 at Chisinau International Airport. It was greeted by President Maia Sandu, Romania's ambassador to Chisinau Daniel Ionita, EU ambassador Peter Mihalko.

The head of state thanked the Romanian leadership for support. "I am very happy that today I received the first 21,600 doses of vaccines from the generous donation from Romania. We are very grateful to Romania for the vaccine. The transport was provided with the help of the European Union. We are waiting for the other doses of vaccine. And I thank the doctors for everything they do, and the citizens must be vigilant so that we do not admit the increase in the number of diseases ", said Sandu.

Daniel Ionita said that transmission of the first batch of vaccine is a sincere gesture of friendship. "I am glad that the first doses of vaccine come from Romania, given Romania's special relations with the Republic of Moldova based on language, culture and history. We want to send our strong message of support to all citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Certainly other doses will follow, and only together will we be able to overcome this difficult situation ", said Ioniţă.

Attending the event was Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Tatiana Zatîc. She said that the vaccine will be stored as required and will be applied to medical staff, including those working in hospitals on the left bank of the Dniester.

The vaccine is part of the support package for Moldova announced by President of Romania Klaus Johannis on the occasion of his official visit to Chisinau.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection received confirmation from COVAX that the first batch of 14,400 vaccines against COVID-19, AstraZeneca, produced by South Korea will reach Moldova on 28 February- 3 March.
