More than 3,000 pupils from Chisinau-based education institutions in self-isolation

Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 131 pupils from schools and lyceums of the Chisinau municipality are sick with coronavirus.   

At a today’s online meeting of the municipal services, the Chisinau deputy mayor, Angela Cutasevici, said that 131 coronavirus cases had been recorded at the education institutions. ‘’At present, 3,422 pupils are in self-isolation, by 1,000 more than two weeks ago,’’ Cutasevici noted.  

According to the official, pupils from 172 classes of 76 education institutions were infected with Covid-19, of which 37 primary classes, 63 gymnasium classes and 33 lyceum ones. ‘’More than one case of contamination from pupil to pupil was registered in 23 classes,’’ Cutasevici specified.   

At the same time, the head of the city hall’s Social Assistance and Health General Department, Tatiana Bucearschi, said that statistics of the COVID-19 cases showed that hew cases of infection among pupils with ages between 13 and 17 years were recorded more and more often.  

The Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, today said that the municipal health system was overwhelmed by the large number of coronavirus patients, noting that only 12 free beds for the treatment of COVID-19 were left in the hospitals from Moldova’s capital.
