Chisinau, 1 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNME) will mark its 100th anniversary of the foundation as national theatre on 6 October. The institution’s creation was influenced by more initiatives coming from personalities of the Romanian culture, who organized diverse cultural actions.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, TNME director Petru Hadarca said that the status of the National Theatre had provided to the institution subsidy from public money, which actually never managed to cover the real needs; at the same time, this subsidy obliged managers to ensure the artistic, moral levels, as well as the one of the repertoire. The critics and columnists were imposing high standards, which often did not coincide with the preferences of the wide public, which was coming more to comedies. And the pace of staging plays was different: they tried to stage one first performance each week. The actors with low salaries were hardly managing to learn the texts by heart.
”The theatre did not have money for sceneries, so that the old ones, discoloured and worn-out appeared in plays. In these conditions not all plays were at the level of expectations,’’ Hadarca stressed.
According to the TNME director, to attract the audience to the hall of the Noblemen’s Club, great actors from Bucharest and Iasi were called and tours were organized with famous plays.
