Exhibition dedicated to departed Romanian sculptor, at 145th birthday anniversary, opened in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - A documentary exhibition titled, Constantin Brancusi – The Gorgeous Bird, is opened at the Circus Gallery nearby the monument to Stefan cel Mare from Chisinau, at the 145th birthday anniversary of the well-known sculptor, member of the Romanian Academy Constantin Brancusi.   

Made up of 24 banners, the exhibitions displays a string of documents and photos dealing with the biography of Brancusi, pictures of his works, critical exegeses, articles, letters and evidence on the artistic and existential credo of Constantin Brancusi, regarded by the specialty critic as the most important sculptor of the 20th century.    

The director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau, Valeriu Matei, stressed that artist Constantin Brancusi was an authentic symbol of modernity in the art of sculpture and one of the greatest sculptors of the mankind.

According to art critic Tudor Stavila, over 50 monographs, published in Germany, France, England, Romania and other countries, were written about Constantin Brancusi. ‘’Constantin Brancusi had three sources of inspiration: the Romanian popular art, the Egyptian sculpture and the Japanese woodblock printing. He trained more disciples, but none of them reached the heights of his mastership,’’ Stavila added.   

Constantin Brancusi was born in the village of Hobita, Pestisani commune, Gorj country, Romania, on 19 February 1876. He studied at the Fine Arts School from Bucharest and at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts from Paris. During his career, Brancusi made more works of national and international value: The Endless Column, The Table of Silence, The Gate Of The Kiss, The Gorgeous, Bird in Air, The Wisdom of Earth, New Born, The Cock, The Beginning of the World, etc. Constantin Brancusi died in Paris on 16 March 1957 and was buried in the Montparnasse Cemetery. The great sculptor was posthumously elected member of the Romanian Academy. Presently, a district in a park from Romania’s capital, as well as diverse streets from Bucharest, Chisinau, Craiova, Ramnicu Valcea, Cluj, Arad, Timisoara, Oradea, Petrosani, Motru, Selimbar, education units from Satu Mare, Oradea, Cluj, Targu Mures, Medgidia, Pestisani (Gorj) bear his name.       

The exhibition will be opened till 5 March.
