Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu met members of the families of five heroes, who had died in the armed conflict at Dniester, all knights of the Stefan cel Mare Order, at the headquarters of the Presidency today. The meeting took place on the occasion of the Day of Memory and Gratitude, when those who died in battles from 1992 are commemorated, the presidential press service has reported.
It is about Alexandru Ticot, who died in battles for Tighina at the age of only 22 years. His daughter was one-month old at that time. The son of the PhD, mathematician Alexei Casu, Gheorghe Casu, died at that conflict at the age of only 21 years. The 1992 battles also killed Sergiu Kulatkii in Tighina and Filip Lupascu in Cosnita, and two boys remained orphans. Judge Anatolii Popovici died in Tighina at the age of 30 and his two sons remained without father.
„I discussed with their families about the loss, suffering and gratitude. It was an emotional discussion, which persuaded me once again that he we must do much more, in order to eternalize the memory of those who died, as well as to make the living better for their descendants and close relatives,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
In discussions with families of those who died in the Transnistria War, the head of state learned more about what kind of people they had been and the void left in their families. ‘’Neither tears nor words can soothe the grief of these families. And there are hundreds of such families in Moldova. Including families which lost fathers, husbands and sons after the war, in the wake of the wounds received. As a society, we have the task to know their stories. To be by their side,’’ Maia Sandu said.
