Moldovan children with special needs receive assistance on behalf of United Nations Children's Fund to fight COVID-19

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/ - Children with hearing deficiencies and special education needs, as well as the staff of the psycho-pedagogical assistance services from 35 districts and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia) will benefit from a donation on behalf of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in form of protection and hygiene materials.
According to the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC), it is about 10,632 masks with window in the part of mouth, 1,100 litres of disinfectant solution and 4,600 gloves, from which 49 children from early education institutions, 146 educators who provide services to children with special education needs, including those with speaking deficiencies; 192 pupils from primary education institutions and gymnasiums, 1,523 teachers from these institutions, 149 specialists: psychologists, logopedists, psycho-teachers from general education institutions and 230 specialists of the Psycho-Pedagogical Assistance Services will benefit.
At the same time, UNICEF donated 163 education packages meant for children with disabilities and special education needs. The education packages contain books, notebooks, school supplies, creation sets, games, etc. and will be distributed for 163 children with ages between 4 and 15 years, in order to prevent the school dropout.
The donation is part of the programme on prevention and response to COVID-19, financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Partnership for Education, implemented by UNICEF Moldova. The project is part of assistance worth 2.2 million dollars, provided by the U.S. Government, through USAID, in order to cease the spread of COVID-19 in Moldova.
