Over 4,400 people received free cataract surgery in 2020

Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/- In 2020, over 4,400 people benefited from cataract surgeries performed by medical institutions contracted by the National Medical Insurance Company (CNAM). The number of interventions decreased by 148 compared to the planned volume, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the NHIC data, for these operations, over 47 million 445 thousand lei were allocated from the compulsory health insurance funds. The average cost of a treated case exceeds 10 thousand lei, an amount that includes the expenses for consumables.

This year, 61.4 million lei was provided for performing cataract interventions.

All insured persons who have medical indications and are on the waiting list benefit from the interventions.
