Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/- A Center of Excellence in Information Technology (IT) based on the Tekwill model in Chisinau will be created in Comrat. The action is part of TEKWILL's expansion commitment - a project for development of the Moldovan IT sector, implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sweden.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding between Executive Committee of Gagauzia and TEKWILL, more investments will be made in education and training of the local workforce in ICT, encouraging business based on innovations, boosting competitiveness in local business environment, as well as creating a center of excellence in IT.
"The US government, through USAID, has supported the development of the Moldovan IT sector since 2005, improving the competitiveness of Moldova's economy, promoting transparency and improving governance. In Comrat, we are witnessing the birth of another promising partnership - this time with Invest Gagauzia - to create a Tekwill center of excellence. The USA is a dedicated partner of the Republic of Moldova. In the last thirty years, we have built our relationship based on common interests and mutual aspirations, "said Dereck J. Hogan, US Ambassador to Moldova.
For her part, Anna Lyberg, Sweden's ambassador to our country, said "the evolution of TEKWILL is a success story, and its expansion is due to a strong commitment of the people of Gagauzia, which certainly changes and shapes the future of the country." "Sweden is grateful for partnership with USAID and ATIC, where through TEKWILL we support ICT, digitalisation and innovation. TEKWILL is an impressive and important initiative in advancing towards the goals of sustainable development," she said.
The first beneficiaries of TEKWILL projects in the Gagauz region will be students and teachers in general education. From 1 September they will study the subjects of the future in Tekwill in every school - the most complex extracurricular course program. Thus, 37 schools in the region will be connected to the national network and will learn 6 optional courses on tekwill.online platform.
Tekwill was created in 2017 as a Center of Excellence of ICT sector in Moldova, aimed at aligning the field with the requirements of the 21st century.
