Thomas Bach re-elected as president of International Olympic Committee

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/- German fencer Thomas Bach has been re-elected as head of the International Olympic Committee.
According to the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova, Bach was re-elected with 93 votes, one against and 4 abstentions, at the 137th session held by videoconference.
Thomas Bach is 67 years old and was elected president of the International Olympic Committee in Buenos Aires in 2013. According to the Olympic Charter, after serving a first term of eight years, the CIO president can opt for a second and final term, which will be shorter than only four years.
Thomas Bach won a gold medal at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. Before becoming head of the International Olympic Committee, he served as vice president of the sports forum.
