Moldova to receive 6,000 tons of diesel from Romania to back farmers hit by drought

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will receive for free 6,000 tons of diesel as external humanitarian assistance on behalf of Romania, meant for the farmers hit by drought in 2020.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the government of Romania approved this decision also as a result of the starting of the delivery procedures, as the Moldovan government established the mechanism and formalities of reception, depositing and distribution of the consignment of humanitarian assistance across the border.
„On behalf of Moldova’s government, I offer sincere thanks to the government of Romania for the generous gesture to provide 6,000 tons of diesel as free of charge assistance. Our task is to organize as good as possible the logistic process of reception, depositing and subsequently distribution to the end beneficiary, which is expected by the farmers hit by the last year drought,’’ acting PM Aureliu Ciocoi said at the meeting.
The Material Reserves Agency subordinated to the Interior Ministry (MAI) will be in charge of the reception, depositing, preservation, record and distribution of the diesel. The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM), through the Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA), will establish the eligible quantity of diesel for each farmer applicant for humanitarian assistance, based on the applications submitted to AIPA. Subsequently, MADRM will present the list of eligible farmers, distributed in districts, to the interdepartmental commission for humanitarian assistance, which will distribute the quantity established for each farmer.
At the same time, three million lei will be allocated from the government’s reserve fund to the Material Reserves Agency, needed for covering the expenses dealing with the services of reception, evaluation of the quantity and quality, depositing, preservation, unloading, loading accommodation and nourishment of Romania’s representatives empowered to accompany the humanitarian assistance; the service of reloading of tankers with diesel in the Romanian-Moldova state border checkpoint, works of unloading of the diesel oil from tankers and pumping in the reception reservoir; services of carrying the diesel to oil stations and distribution to the end beneficiaries.
The delivery of this humanitarian assistance is the result of the agreements reached between the presidents of Moldova and Romania. The sides agreed on a package of measures, which comprises concrete measures of support on behalf Romania for Moldova’s citizens, including in the context of combating the COVID-19 pandemic and for backing the economic and social development of Moldova.
