Moldovan parliament gave vote of no confidence to ANRE leadership

Chisinau, 13 March /MOLDPRES/- Parliament described on Friday the activity of the management of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and of the Competition Council as inefficient.
After hearing the ANRE management on the increase in fuel prices, the MPs cast a vote of no confidence in the institution and demanded the resignation of its Board of Directors. The decision was adopted by a majority of MPs.
The decision reads that during the pandemic crisis and economic crisis, the national regulator did not take any measures to prevent rising fuel prices, and did not play a proactive role in preventing their sharp rise in prices, there are reasonable suspicions that encouraging and indirectly supporting cartel agreements in the market.
Given that the Competition Council has notified on the situation in the fuel market and launched an investigation into the cartel agreements, it will present to the Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance within 30 days the investigation report and proposals to improve the situation, the parliament decision reads.
