51 kindergartens, 87 groups of children quarantined due to pandemic - Moldovan education ministry says

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/- Fifty-one kindergartens and 87 groups of children are in quarantine, according to data updated on 12 March. There are 19 children confirmed positive COVID-19 virus and 3,112 (2.08%) children are in self-isolation, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) has reported.

According to the institution, 187 teachers were confirmed positive with the new coronavirus, and 224 are in self-isolation. Of the non-teaching and auxiliary staff, 111 people were infected with the new virus, and 259 are in self-isolation.

"In general education, the number of pupils tested positive COVID-19 is 346, and 1,980 were under self-isolation. 392 teachers have been confirmed positive with the new coronavirus and 204 are in isolation. Of the non-teaching and auxiliary staff, 114 people were infected with the new virus, and another 83 are in self-isolation ", MECC said.

In technical vocational education, on 8-12 March 19 students, 46 teachers and 32 other staff people were infected with Covid-19 virus.

In higher education, on 8-12 March 12 students were positively confirmed, seven are in self-isolation. 27 teachers tested positive and six are in self-isolation. Of the auxiliary staff, 11 people were infected with Covid-19 virus and two are in self-isolation.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research urges school managers, teachers and students to continue to comply with all measures to protect against COVID-19 virus.

So far, pupils in the country have been on spring holiday, which was previously extended by a week. Starting with 16 March the Extraordinary National Commission for Public Health decided to resume the educational process in the Republic of Moldova. The studies will be organized based on three scenarios, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation in each locality.

Specifically, the territorial commissions of public health will order the organization of the study process according to the degree of alert assigned to the locality, based on the incidence indicator per 100 thousand population in the last 14 days.
