Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/- A number of 100,000 rapid diagnostic tests for the detection of SARSCoV-2 were distributed to public health institutions nationwide, in order to strengthen the capacity of diagnosis and detection of the virus among the population. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, which states that the tests were purchased within the World Bank project Emergency response to COVID-19 in the Republic of Moldova.
Rapid tests will be used only if the person has symptoms of COVID-19 or in patients who have been in contact with a confirmed person. The application of rapid tests is also recommended for testing people in a closed or semi-closed institution where there may be a potential outbreak.
Rapid testing will allow results to be obtained in a shorter time, will increase case management capacity and will allow rapid public health measures and contact monitoring. For starters, these types of tests will be used in emergency units and at the level of primary care.
MSMPS announces that another 200,000 rapid tests will be delivered in the next two weeks.
