Fuel prices likely to be capped

Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/- MPs supported the method of capping prices based on a Methodology for calculating and applying prices to fuel products approved and supervised by ANRE, based on the quotations of international stock exchanges.

The legislative initiative belongs to independent MP Alexandru Oleinic. In his view, the analysis of the situation on the domestic market, including the evolution of prices compared to price fluctuations on international markets, the behavior of oil companies show the need for a revision of the regulatory framework in this area. This became even more obvious after hearing the reports of the representatives of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and the Competition Council.

Oleinic said that the implementation of the bill would base the competitive environment, set clear rules for the activity of actors in the country's oil market and will not allow companies to promote their cartel interest to the detriment of citizens and the national economy.

The draft contains an annex setting out the formula for calculating the maximum retail prices of major petroleum products.

In order to become law, the draft is to be voted in the second reading.
