North Moldova municipality among first one implementing national programme on cities growth poles

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - The first meeting on ensuring the implementation of the national programme on the development of cities growth poles in Moldova (2020-2027) was held at the Edinet mayoralty today. The leadership of the Edinet city and of the North Regional Development Agency (ADR Nord) considered an action plan on the implementation of the programme this year.
Following the discussions, ADR Nord is to provide support to the local public administrations of the Edinet and Soroca municipalities in the process of elaboration of the operational plans on the implementation of the programme locally and provide information assistance and support in the working out/updating of the strategic and town-planning documentation of the municipalities benefiting from the programme. At the same time, a study visit on the cities-regional growth poles is planned for the period August-September 2021.
The local authorities from the beneficiary municipalities in September-October 2021are to submit proposals of projects to ADR Nord, which will approve and include them in the annual financing plan.
The programme’s goal is the social and economic development of six municipalities – regional centres from Moldova, among which also the Soroca and Edinet municipalities, in order to transform them into growth poles, able to back the extension of the development in the proximal rural areas and ensure the occupation of the labour force, so that the network of cities-regional growth poles becomes attractive for the residents, entrepreneurs and visitors. The specific objectives of the programmes aim at improving the mobility and quality of the infrastructure of access with adjacent zones; developing and equipping the infrastructures and services of economic support to stimulate the competitiveness; urban revitalization and development of the infrastructure of public spaces; modernization of the technical and municipal and of the networks of the public utilities.
The national programme on the development of cities growth poles in Moldova, approved by the government in December 2020, was worked out for ensuring the enforcement of the Law No 239/2016 on the approval of the National Strategy of Regional Development for 2016-2020. The programme’s implementation is to support the carrying out of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Moldova.
