World Poetry Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan Writers’ Union and the Mihail Kogalniceanu National Literature Museum today mark the World Poetry Day.  

The Mihail Kogalniceanu National Literature Museum organizes two activities with and about the poetry on this occasion.  

Thus, a dialogue titled, Museum poetry collections: Mihai Ursachi, was held at 12:00, and a recital of poems took place at 13:00.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the deputy president of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Teo Chiriac, said that the poem defined itself. ‘’It should be present every day. Just as there is therapy through music, there is similarly therapy through poetry. The poem is a perennial value,’’ Teo Chiriac stressed.    

The World Poetry Day is annually marked on 21 March, as a result of the enforcement of a decision by UNESCO, issued at the 30th session held in Paris, on the period October-November 1999, as a recognition of the fact that the people of letters and culture, poets and writers from all over the world brought their outstanding contribution to the enrichment of the universal culture and spiritualty. This Day is also aimed at baking the poetic works, establishing a dialogue between the poetry and other genres of works, at editing and promoting the poetry as art open for people.    

One of the main goals of the World Poetry Day is to support the linguistic diversity through poems and to give the disappearing languages possibility to be heard within their communities.
