Mihai Eminescu National Theater: 100th anniversary of founding

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/- On 6 October we will mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Mihai Eminescu National Theater (TNME) with the status of national theater. The establishment of the institution was influenced by several initiatives coming from some personalities of the Romanian culture and some cultural institutions.

TNME director Petru Hadârcă said that a monumental and memorable achievement was the show Thebaida by Victor Eftimiu of 1924-1925 season, under the direction of Dauș. Written in verse, the play brought to the fore the sufferings of the city of Thebes and was inspired by ancient tragedies. The newspaper Rampa wrote that for Chisinau the performance was a real explosion of success.

In 1992, after years of silence and censorship, Eugeniu Ureche, in an interview with journalist Nelly Harabara, from the only television station at that time, shared his memories for the first time, publicly.

”Eugeniu Ureche was one of the thousands of spectators of the Romanian National Theater in Chisinau, during Greater Romania. Theater is an art of emotions and intelligence, which is lived live and has the power to awaken the spirit and unite hearts ", said Petru Hadârcă.
