Moldovan education ministry says 137 schools work exclusively online over quarantine

Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 137 (10.95 per cent) of the general education institutions work exclusively online on 22 March, as a result of a decision by the territorial public health commissions and specialty local bodies. A number of 131 of these schools are from the Chisinau municipality, two ones are from the central Nisporeni district, one institution - in the Rezina and Causeni districts each and two schools are from the Drochia district, according to the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC).
At the same time, according to the situation from 22 March, because of the increase in the number of cases of infection with COVID-19, another five education institutions from Moldova and 26 classes (0.16 per cent) were placed in quarantine and the classes are held online.
„There are 312 pupils positively tested for COVID-19 in the elementary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and 2,940 pupils were placed in self-isolation regime. As many as 364 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 235 ones are in self-isolation. A number of 126 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with the new virus and another 122 are in self-isolation,’’
On 15-19 March, 21 students, 27 teachers and eight auxiliary staff employees were confirmed positive in higher education institutions and four students, eight teachers and eight auxiliary staff employees were placed in self-isolation.
As for the vocational education, 36 pupils, 28 teachers and 34 people of other staff categories were positively confirmed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus on the period 15-19 March.
As far as the early education is concerned, 29 kindergartens and 104 children’s groups are in quarantine. There are 23 children confirmed positive with the COVID-19 virus and another 3,435 are in self-isolation. At the same time, 186 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 207 are in self-isolation. A number of 148 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with Covid-19 and another 263 are in self-isolation.
The Education, Culture and Research Ministry reiterates the urge to the managers of education institutions, teachers and pupils to further observe all protection measures against the COVID-19 virus.
