Retro exhibition dedicated to poscards opened at Moldova's National Library

Chisinau, 25 March /MOLDPRES/ - A retro exhibition dedicated to postcards was inaugurated at the National Library (BNRM) today. The event is organized on the occasion of the World Postcard Day, marked in the world countries today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that, in fact, the postcard represented a part of the cultural heritage of a country. Called also pictures, the postcards impress us visually and aesthetically. The congratulations engraved with open text in the beginning represented a quite popular communication means during holidays, for correspondence, making an album, etc.
”The Art and Maps Section of the Library has a unique collection of postcards, which is part of the National Library’s Heritage. It has more than 97,000 copies. They represent true epoch documents, a chronicle of the society in pictures on its life, customs and concerns. The illustrated postcards with pictures of the world countries, cities’ architecture, social life in various countries, traditions and occupations of different nations remain unique. This collection reached the BNRM funds by different ways: legal copy, procurements, donations from the population,’’ Elena Pintilei added.
