Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/- The second batch of anti-COVID-19 vaccine donated by Romania arrived in the Republic of Moldova this evening. The truck was greeted at customs by Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau Daniel Ioniță and presidential adviser Ala Nemerenco.
According to the Romanian diplomat, today's donation is a gesture that aims to mark the unification of Bessarabia. "These batches are part of the promise made by President of Romania Klaus Iohannis to President Maia Sandu. It is our simple way of telling the citizens of the Republic of Moldova that we are with you. These doses will be taken to Chisinau, where they will be distributed to all districts," Ionita said.
Nemerenco noted that the new batch of vaccine will allow the authorities to move on to the second stage of vaccination. "We are facing a vaccine crisis, and this batch will allow us to move to the second stage of vaccination," Nemerenco said.
The 50,400 doses of vaccine produced by AstraZeneca left in the afternoon from the National Institute for Medical-Military Research-Development Cantacuzino in Bucharest to the Republic of Moldova. The doses are part of the reserve of the Romanian Ministry of Health, and the mission was carried out with a means of transport provided by IGSU Romania.
Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîţu wrote on his official website "in the next period, Romania will send other vaccine tranches to reach the 200,000 doses with which we have committed to support those across the Prut, on the occasion the visit of President of Romania Klaus Iohannis to Chisinau".
On 27 February Romania delivered to Chisinau 21,600 doses of anti-COVID vaccine produced by AstraZeneca. The vaccine was distributed in all hospitals in the country, and 10% of the doses reached the medical institutions on the left bank of the Dniester.
