Moldovan president asks government to impose temporary restrictions on export of wheat from state reserves

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today asked the government to urgently approve a Cabinet Decision imposing temporary restrictions on the export of wheat from the state reserves, the presidential press service has reported.
„In the context of the information on the risk of the export in wheat from the state reserves in droughty year, which appeared in public area, I ask the government to act immediately, in order to ensure the country’s food security. I will also notify the Prosecutor General’s Office about potential cases of state institutions’ involvement in the sale of state reserves, with damages inflicted to the country and the citizens,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state noted that, during the crisis, when the economy had been weakened by the pandemic and the farmers were hit by the drought, the state must correctly manage the food risks and guarantee the sufficient supply with food productions nationally.
