Moldovan education ministry says 196 schools work exclusively online over quarantine

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 196 (15.81 per cent) of the general education institutions work exclusively online on 26 March, as a result of a decision by the territorial public health commissions and specialty local bodies. A number of 155 of these schools are from the Chisinau municipality, five ones are from the Calarasi district, 32 institutions are from the Causeni district, one institution is from the Drochia, Nisporeni, Ocnita and Rezina districts each, according to the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC).
According to MECC, because of the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, another nine educations institutions from Moldova and 45 classes were placed in quarantine and carry out the online education. „There are 307 pupils positively tested for COVID-19 in the elementary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and 3,053 pupils were placed in self-isolation regime. As many as 333 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 210 ones are in self-isolation. A number of 135 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with the new virus and another 119 are in self-isolation, ‘’ The Education Ministry said.
On 22-26 March, six students, 15 teachers and 14 auxiliary staff employees were confirmed positive in higher education institutions and one student, seven teachers and 12 auxiliary staff employees were placed in self-isolation. As for the vocational education, 36 pupils, 38 teachers and 26 people of other staff categories were positively confirmed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus on the period 22-26 March.
"As far as the early education is concerned, 33 kindergartens and 82 children’s groups are in quarantine. There are 25 children confirmed positive with the COVID-19 virus and another 3,272 are in self-isolation. At the same time, 188 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 187 are in self-isolation. A number of 146 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with Covid-19 and another 250 are in self-isolation,’’ MECC also said.
The Education, Culture and Research Ministry reiterates the urge to the managers of education institutions, teachers and pupils to further observe all protection measures against the COVID-19 virus.
