Moldovan president thanks development partners for assistance received on last days

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting, during which she thanked the development partners for the support provided on the last days in the fight against the pandemic and supply with vaccines, the presidential press service has reported.

„I thanked Mr. Kęstutis Kudzmanas, the Ambassador of Lithuania, which is also the NATO liaison office in Moldova, for the donation of 100,000 FFP3 masks worth 190,000 dollars on behalf of the North Atlantic Alliance, which will be brought to Chisinau today evening. This is a support which we feel and for which we are grateful, as any extra equipment means more safety for the first-line medical equipment and chance for life for people,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

Also, the head of state thanked Ambassador of Romania Daniel Ionita for the complex support provided by the Romanian government: for the physicians who last spring worked by the side of Moldovan colleagues, for the tens of trucks with protection equipment, which crossed the Prut river in the last year and especially for those 72,000 anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses, 50,400 of which came to Moldova just on 28 March.    

„In another context, I emphasized the cooperation between Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance in diverse sectors, such as the destruction of pesticides left on the country’s territory since the times of the former USSR, support for the reform of the defence and security sector or projects on the science and security dimension,’’ President Maia Sandu said.  

This is the second part of the humanitarian assistance offered by NATO to Moldova for combating the pandemic. The first part, worth more than 300,000 dollars, was supplied in last February. The carriage of the donation on behalf of NATO, which is to reach Chisinau today evening, will be facilitated and sponsored by Romania, which made available a plane of the Romanian Air Forces. The medical equipment will be delivered to the medical institutions depending on the need.   

This assistance is a response of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC), as a result of Moldova’s request to be backed to overcome the pandemic crisis. The package of assistance for Moldova was possible due to a financial contribution on behalf of Luxembourg and Norway.
