Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today ruled to ban the export of cereals from the state reserves till 12 April, at a recommendation by the Supreme Security Council (CSS). The decision, approved after more discussions with closed doors, will enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal.
The subject on the approval of the government decision on prohibiting the wheat export triggered hot discussions between the cabinet members and a decision was taken to summon a meeting with the physical presence of the ministers at the government building. After more discussions, they ruled to ban the export of wheat for two weeks.
At the cabinet meeting, Agriculture Minister Ion Perju informed that, for the moment, more than 318,000 hectares were sowed with wheat, which are in a good state, and over 45,000 hectares of barley. ‘’In 2020, more than 600,000 tons of wheat were harvested, which is less than a half of which was produced in 2019; yet, this quantity fully meets the country’s food security. About 107,000 tons of wheat out of the total quantity of 600,000 tons was exported on the period 1 July 2020 – 30 March 2021. We need about 300,000-350,000 tons to ensure the food security. There is no risk to record lack of food wheat,’’ Perju said.
