Moldovan authorities to monitor media to avoid fake news during state of emergency

Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/- Mass media activity will be coordinated during the state of emergency (1 April - 30 May) in order to avoid fake news, according to Instruction No1 of the Commission for Emergencies (CSE).
Under the document, the Intelligence and Security Service will approve and make public the list of online content sources that promote fake news about the evolution of COVID-19.
"Providers of online content hosting services and online content providers on the territory of the Republic of Moldova are obliged, at the decision of the Intelligence and Security Service, to immediately interrupt, with informing users, the transmission in an electronic communications network or storage of content by eliminating it at the source, if the respective content promotes fake news on evolution of COVID-19 and protection and prevention measures”, the CSE Instruction reads.
Also, providers of publicly available electronic communications services, at the decision of the National Agency for Regulation in Electronic Communications and Information Technology, based on the list of sources made public by the Intelligence and Security Service, have the obligation to immediately block access to users in Moldova to the mentioned sources, with the information of the users.
Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi, CSE chairman, asked the media representatives to ensure the correct information of public about the instruction of the Commission for Emergencies and need to strictly observe them.
