Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today afternoon had a meeting with Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Peter Michalko, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, the head of state thanked the ambassador, on behalf of all Moldova’s citizens, for the European solidarity and the huge assistance provided to the country on this difficult period. Maia Sandu thanked for the donations of equipment for the first-line employees, donations of vaccine received on the COVAX platform with European support and the non-refundable assistance of 15 million euros, which will back the sectors of the economy mostly hit by the crisis.
President Sandu informed Ambassador Michalko about the country’s interest in buying additional vaccine from European states, which supplied their stock in advance, with reserve. ‘’I hope that we will identify such opportunities and the government will make the proper approaches for getting the vaccine for our citizens,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The officials also discussed the latest political developments. The sides agreed that the political agenda should evolve taking into account the citizens’ interests and well-being, not only the calculated steps of the political parties and the interest groups behind them.
The European Union is an important partner for Moldova, which has been providing the country with support for much time. For its part, Moldova must observe its commitments and ensure the democratic and economic reforms, which will transform the country into a European state.
