Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) warned about risks and measures to prevent frost. The warning comes in the context of the information provided by the State Hydrometeorological Service on forecast for the next period and probability of recording ground frosts.
According to specialists in agriculture, lowering the temperature of the air layer below the soil surface below 0 ° C during the warm period of the year (vegetation period of crops) negatively affects plant development and sometimes ends prematurely the vegetation cycle, or even leads to death of plants.
According to experts, the current possibilities for combating late spring and early autumn frosts can be grouped from the point of view of the control principle into several categories such as: practical measures before planting or sowing that ensure easy drainage of cold air in the valleys; measures to mitigate night radiation (fumigation, shelter, protective plant curtains); measures to increase the temperature of the soil and air (heating the soil surface by irrigation, heating with hot air); mechanical means (air ventilation) which prevent the formation of thermal inversions in the air layer in the vicinity of the soil; agrotechnical measures that influence the thermal properties of the arable layer and the radiative processes at the soil surface.
In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment considers it important and strongly recommends the identification of new solutions to prevent risks, reduce losses caused or partially compensate for them, in particular by insuring risks.
Also, MADRM warns that the insurance of production risks in the Republic of Moldova is carried out based on the following normative acts: Law on subsidized insurance in agriculture; Government Decision for the approval of the Regulation on subsidizing the insurance of production risks in agriculture; Government Decision on the distribution of the funds of the National Fund for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment.
For the next few days, meteorologists announced low air temperature for this time of year, droping to -5 degrees at night. Tomorrow, precipitation as rain, sleet and snow is expected throughout the country.
