World Health Organization donates two decontamination installations to Moldova

Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/ - Two decontamination installations and a consignment of IT equipment today was donated to the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova.    

Attending the event on the delivery of the donation were the state secretary at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), Denis Cernelea, the director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova, Caroline Tissot and the World Health Organization’s representative in Moldova, Igor Pokanevych.

„This donation will allow ANSP specialists carrying out quickly epidemiological investigations on the ground. At the same time, the mobile decontamination showers will enhance the safety of our colleagues who work in hotbeds,’’ Cernelea said.  

For his part, the WHO representative on Moldova, Igor Pokanevych, said that the equipment donated today was used all over the world, where hotbeds of infectious diseases and disasters of all kinds are recorded. ‘’This is a modern equipment, which is easily exploited and works automatically. We hope that, through this donation, we will contribute to the consolidation of the national capacities of response to the public health emergencies, including COVID-19,’’ Pokanevych noted.    

The decontamination installations are endowed with all needed equipment to ensure the functionality in field conditions. 

The donation is made up also of 20 IT devices for the regional public health centres and five IT devices for the quick intervention teams, in order to improve the process of data collection, level of preparation, epidemiological investigation of the outbreaks of infectious diseases, including those triggered by respiratory pathogenic agents.

The equipment was purchased with the financial support of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova, through WHO, in the context of strengthening the public health system and enhancing the capacities of response to the public health emergencies, including Covid-19. The donation’s value is estimated at 56,800 dollars.
