Commemorative exhibition by departed Moldovan painter inaugurated at Chisinau-based museum

Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/ - The National Art Museum of Moldova today inaugurated a commemorative exhibition of painting and graphic, occasioned by the 95th birthday anniversary of departed painter Eleonora Romanescu – representative of the golden generation of Moldova’s fine arts.  

The exhibition comprises 72 works, of which 24 paintings and nine graphic works from the museum’s collection and 39 paintings and one portrait – from the family’s collection.

At the event, the museum’s director, Tudor Zbarnea, said that Eleonora Romanescu was one of the bench marks of the contemporary fine art in Moldova. ‘’She was an artist with love for this land and landscape. She is the best artist of the landscape, an artist of the panoramic landscape. She also has a lot of portraits. All her portraits have a certain atmosphere, are unitary and different, at the same time. Eleonora Romanescu was appreciated since her first appearances in collective exhibitions. She worked till the last breath. Her works are with a deep aesthetic weight,’’ Zbarnea noted.     

Eleonora Romanescu was born in the Leuseni village, Orhei county, on 26 April 1926. She finished the I. Repin Republican School of Fine Arts from Chisinau and the high courses of painter-restorers from Moscow.    

Her first paintings were presented at an exhibition of young fine artist from 1954. In 1958, Romanescu became member of the Union of Fine Artists from the border Soviet Union.  

In 1976, she was awarded the State Prize for the cycle, Native Land. In 1986, Romanescu was awarded the title of People’s Artist, in 1996 – the Order of the Republic, in 1997 – the Prize of the Moldovan Fine Artists’ Union. The fine artist has works preserved in private collections from Moldova, Romania, Germany, Russia, France, the United States and Canada.     

Eleonora Romanescu died at the age of 93 on 4 November 2019 and was buried at the Central Orthodox Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street from Chisinau.

The exhibition will be open till 8 May.
