Moldovan honorary director of National Children's Library celebrates birthday

Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/- Honorary Director of the National Children's Library Ion Creanga in Chisinau Claudia Balaban, former president of the national section of the International Council of Books for Children and Youth, holder of the Order of the Republic turned 80 years today.

She was born on 13 April 1941 in Burlănești, Edineț. In 1968 she graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the State University of Moldova, specializing in librarianship and bibliography. In 1959–1964 she worked at the libraries in Burlănești, Burdujeni and Edineț. In 1964-1978 she was inspector and head of sector at the Culture Department in Comrat district.

From 1978 to 2019 she was the director of the National Children's Library Ion Creanga in Chisinau. She is currently honorary director. In 1997 she launched the International Book Fair for Children and Youth.

She was awarded the Order of the Republic, Order of Honor, Labor Glory order, Mihai Eminescu medal, the award of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. Also, she was given the honorary title Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Moldova.
