Moldova to buy anti-COVID-19 vaccine through cost-sharing mechanism launched by COVAX

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - The COVAX platform on 13 April informed the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) about the launch of the cost-sharing mechanism, through which Moldova can purchase vaccine against COVID-19 at advantageous prices. The cost-sharing mechanism is meant to facilitate, in continuation, the fair access to vaccine, additionally to the doses provided for free to 20 per cent of the country’s population, in order to enhance the degree of the residents’ immunization.        

The letter from COVAX reads that the delivery of the vaccine will be made depending on the stocks available and the platform will inform about the quantity of doses available to be supplied during the 2021 year. At the same time, the price per one dose was estimated at seven dollars, which includes the expenses for transport, purchasing taxes, etc.   

The competent ministry is to inform, till 26 April, about the quantity of vaccine due to be purchased in 2021.  

On 30 December 2020, MSMPS submitted to COVAX an application, thereby demanding the covering of 50 per cent of the population with doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine, of which 20 per cent are provided for free and 30 per cent – through the cost-sharing mechanism with preferential prices provided to Moldova.   

So far, through the COVAX platform, 14,400 doses of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) and 24,570 doses of Pfizer vaccine have been delivered to Moldova free of charge. At the same time, another 48,000 doses of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) vaccine will be received in late April.
