Repair works start at hall of Chisinau-based museum

Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/ - Simultaneously with the restoration of the roof of the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum (MNEIN), the repair works started in the Wedding Hall of MNEIN, the best known hall of the museum.
According to the MNEIN director, Petru Vicol, the budget of the project on restoration is of over 6.8 million lei – allocated from the state budget. The works started in August 2020 and have continued till present.
The National Ethnography and Natural History Museum is a cultural and scientific symbol of Moldova and the central headquarters, specially constructed for the museum on the period of 1903-1905, represents an architectural masterpiece in the historic centre of the Moldovan capital. The institution has a rich history and an exceptional ethnographic and natural heritage. The museum was funded immediately after the end of the Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition in Moldova, organized on 24-25 October 1889. The museum appeared at an initiative by Baron Alexandru Stuart, the head of the Zemstvo of the Province of Bessarabia and the first director of the museum, who wanted to create a collection of pieces permanently displayed for public at the Zemstvo institution. At present, the museum owns a heritage of about 135,000 pieces. Pieces from the MNEIN collection were presented at various exhibitions staged in more countries of Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
