Moldovan president participates in launch of investment call for supplying financing for COVAX

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today participated in an important global online event, at an invitation by the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI). It is about the launch of an investment call for supplying the financing for the COVAX platform - initiative which provides important donations of vaccine for 92 low income states within the Covid-19 pandemic, the presidential press service has reported.
„I asked for the community’s support for extending the platform’s bid over 20 per cent of the national needs of the beneficiary states. At the same time, I asked for support for negotiating the purchasing of the vaccine directly from producers, with the participation of COVAX, through a mechanism of sharing the costs, which would guarantee us an advantageous price,’’ Maia Sandu said.
Attending the event were heads of state and government, heads of the pharmaceutical companies and international organizations, managers of charity foundations and world opinion leaders. The participants committed to contribute with more than 2 billion dollars for the backing of the COVAX activity, which saves lives all over the world.
„Moldova is the first country of Europe to receive donations of vaccine on the COVAX platform, which allowed us advancing in the vaccination of physicians and first-line staff and continue with the vaccination of teachers, policemen, people exposed to high risk and elderly persons,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The COVAX platform was launched in 2020 by the Vaccine Alliance, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), along with the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund and is financed through contributions of over 60 countries, foundations and private donors from all over the world.
